Guatemala Mission Team heads for Central America

June 21, 2011

On June 20th, our mission team from Rochester, Indiana at Faith Outreach Center began the journey to spend 10 days in Guatemala. With help from a Shelly, Mikela, Cynthia, and Greg, the team departed from the Faith Outreach Center parking lot in two vehicles. The van from Olive Branch Church carried most of the team members, and a private vehicle owned by Brian and Ramona carried the luggage. The trip to the airport was smooth and easy.

Upon check-in, the plans for the trip changed. The flight we were supposed to be on had been cancelled for mechanical problems. The next hour or so was spent with help from very nice check-in people for American Airlines. The result: our trip would take us only to Miami on our first day, and the team would arrive one day late in Guatemala. We were given vouchers for dinner and also for breakfast.

This is the second day, and the team is ready to resume travel. Everyone scored an A+ for attitude and flexibility yesterday. Let us continue our journey today with as much enthusiasm and joy and expectation as we had in the beginning.

Thanks for the prayers!!!

Pastor Steve

Ready to be inspired? This podcast is the story of the adoption of two wonderful people, Jacob and Jamin. As these twins grow up, special needs challenges have been a major factor of life. It appears that God is up to something, a blessing that will change the lives of not just the twins, but the whole family, their church, and even probably their community.

Prophecy and the Birth of Jesus

There are times when we must wait on the Lord. These times can be much longer than we wish them to be. It is important to continue to trust that God will do what He said He will do. In the case of the birth of Christ, there were prophecies about a righteous ruler that would come to sit on the throne of David, whose kingdom would never end. People hung tightly to those prophetic words. But, it took years before the promise was fulfilled. As you wait on the Lord, be encouraged in your faith. I hope you enjoy this podcast, which aired on WROI on Sunday, November 28th at 7:30 AM. God bless, and Merry Christmas!

Obedience in Prayer

This is the audio from the sermon preached at Faith Outreach Center on Sunday, October 3, 2010. Pastor Steve Hohm preached a message entitled: Obedience in Prayer. This is part of the sermon series with a special emphasis on prayer entitled “Transformed: When God’s People Pray.”

Scriptures included in this sermon were:
Psalm 66:18-19
“If I had cherished sin in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened;
but God has surely listened
and heard my voice in prayer.”

Ezekiel 8:16-18
16 He then brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord, and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men. With their backs toward the temple of the Lord and their faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in the east. 17 He said to me, “Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a trivial matter for the house of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing here? Must they also fill the land with violence and continually provoke me to anger? Look at them putting the branch to their nose! 18 Therefore I will deal with them in anger; I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout in my ears, I will not listen to them.”

Isaiah 59:1-2
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not so short
that it cannot save;
Nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear.
But your iniquities have made a separation
between you and your God,
And your sins have hidden His face from you
so that He does not hear.

I John 1:9
If we confess our sins,
He is faithful and righteous
to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness.

Some of the difficult issues that we face as believers have to do with our own personal walk and life. If we want to be blessed by God, it is important to live before Him in obedience to His will and His word. Trying to get God to bless us, when we are living directly opposite to the way He has told us to live, creates a dilemma for us. We must repent and turn from sin, and live in obedience in order for God to bless us.

This is the audio from the sermon preached at Faith Outreach Center on Sunday, September 5, 2010. Pastor Steve Hohm preached a message entitled: NEW: Cleansed, Changed, Filled.

Ezekiel 36:22-24 – Purpose
“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I show myself holy through you before their eyes.

Ezekiel 36:25-27 – Path
“I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you, I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.”

Ezekiel 36:28 – Promise
“Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God.

Ezekiel 37:1-3 – Predicament
“The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”
I said, “O Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”

Jeremiah 29:13-14 – Peace
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”
